How old is Everleigh Hughes?
We shipped our first products to retailers in the fall of 2005. Consumers first purchased our products in the spring of 2006.
Where are the products made?
Products are made in southern China according to our designs. I personally spend a lot of time at the factory monitoring production, participating in new product development, and ensuring that products are made to our high quality standards. I visit China three or four times a year and spend most of my time at the factory. We are proud to have passed quality and human rights audits by major retailers in the United States.
Are Everleigh Hughes products safe?
Yes. We believe they are absolutely safe. However, the State of California has unusually strict regulations requiring warnings for certain metals used in the manufacture of stainless steel and die-cast aluminum alloys. Everleigh Hughes has tested some, but not all, of its products through an independent testing laboratory, Intertek, to determine if they meet California Proposition 65 requirements. Our watering products have been tested for Proposition 65 compliance. For our die-cast aluminum hand tools, the situation is more complicated. Most hand tools pass Proposition 65 testing; however, there appear to be slight differences in lead levels in some random samples causing some tools to pass and others to fail. The only way to test for lead is with a spectrometer as the lead is completely encapsulated in the alloy and will not leach out. Our stainless steel digging products have not been tested but may contain trace amounts of lead and chromium, both of which are necessary elements to make stainless steel. Therefore, while we believe our products are completely safe for all possible uses, out of an abundance of caution we need to issue the following general warning to California residents regarding Everleigh Hughes products.
